Star Hero Journey Metro Elementary

 Start Hero Journey Metro Elementary

My group and I have decided that we would have the students of Metro Elementary identify the history of the plant life cycle. With listening to our AI story, by scanning a QR Code, the students will then be able to engage in electronic activities such a NearPod, Flip, and AI Perplexity. With these activities, it gives the students options to record themselves and act out the plant life cycle, it also lets them on their own time read the story with friends or their family.

TEKS:

K-2.1.A apply prior knowledge to develop new ideas, products, and processes;

Gardening TEKS:

K.13C - identify and record the changes from seed, seedling, plant, flower, and fruit in a simple plant life cycle.
ELAR - evaluate and provide thoughts on daily activities (through speaking and/or writing)
K.13(B) - Sequence and Categorize information

Gardening Topic(s):

History of the plant  life cycle.

AI Story: Sunny the Seed

Once upon a time, there was a little seed named Sunny. Sunny lived in a garden with many other plants, but he felt like he was meant for something more. One day, he heard a call to adventure. It was the wind, whispering to him to grow and explore the world beyond the garden.

Sunny was scared at first, but he knew he had to answer the call. He sprouted out of the ground and began his journey. Along the way, he met many friends who helped him on his journey. There was a ladybug named Lila who showed him how to avoid harmful bugs, and a butterfly named Benny who taught him how to pollinate other plants.

As Sunny continued on his journey, he faced many challenges. He had to withstand harsh weather conditions and avoid being eaten by animals. But he persevered and grew stronger with each obstacle he faced.

Finally, Sunny reached his destination: a beautiful meadow filled with other plants just like him. He was so happy to be there and to have completed his journey. But he knew that his journey wasn't over yet. He had to continue to grow and thrive in this new environment.

Sunny learned many things on his journey that helped him live a healthy life. He learned about the plant cycle and how important it is to take care of the earth. He also learned about the importance of healthy living, like eating nutritious foods and getting enough exercise.

Music, theatre, and kinesiology also played a big role in Sunny's journey. He loved listening to the birds sing and the wind rustle through the leaves. He also enjoyed watching the other plants dance in the breeze. And he learned how to move his leaves and stems in different ways to get the most sunlight and nutrients.

In the end, Sunny realized that his journey was not just about reaching his destination, but about the lessons he learned along the way. He was grateful for the friends he made and the challenges he faced, because they helped him become the strong and healthy plant he was meant to be.

Identifying and recording the changes from seed, seedling, plant, flower, and fruit in a simple plant life cycle:

  • Seed: Sunny starts his journey as a small seed, full of potential but in need of the right conditions to grow.

  • Sprout: With the help of water, sunlight, and nutrients from the soil, Sunny begins to sprout, pushing his way up through the ground.

  • Seedling: As Sunny grows taller, he develops leaves and starts to look like a young plant. He is still fragile at this stage and needs extra care to survive.

  • Plant: Sunny continues to grow, developing a strong stem and more leaves. He can now make his own food through photosynthesis, using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.

  • Flower: After some time, Sunny starts to produce flowers. These flowers are not only beautiful but also serve an important purpose in the plant cycle by attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies.

  • Fruit: Once the flowers are pollinated, they start to develop into fruits. These fruits contain seeds, which can be spread by animals or the wind, allowing new plants to grow in different places.

Finally, Sunny reached his destination: a beautiful meadow filled with other plants just like him. He was so happy to be there and to have completed his journey. But he knew that his journey wasn't over yet. He had to continue to grow and thrive in this new environment.

Following Activities:

NearPod, Flip - Interactive theater play, AI Perplexity

- These activities are meant to be virtually engaging for the students and their families. These activities also align with my selected standards below. We have planned for each activity to take no more than 5-7 minutes.

Standards:

2.4 Collaborator

Educators dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems.

2.4.c Use Collaborative Tools

Use collaborative tools to expand students' authentic, real-world learning experiences by engaging virtually with experts, teams and students, locally and globally.

My standards call also be viewed here

Assessment:

At the end of our time with the students of Metro Elementary, we will be able to do a fun writing assessment activity called a "3-2-1 Summary."
